Art Gallery of Ontario

Brief: Take an area of Toronto and develop street furniture for it.

Return Brief: Modify the area surrounding the Art Gallery of Ontario to match the architecture of the building.
Strong concrete pillars and glass facades make up the image of the building, but this imagery is not projected around the area. New furniture to encourage keeping the area clean and comfortable, and to give the AGO branding area to draw in some of the hundreds of people that walk past the bare building daily.
The two objects build on the concrete and glass motif of the building. The concrete bench has both a recycling bin and garbage bin built into it. These bins are made of glass, and surrounded by concrete forms that appear to cantilever over the glass. The gentle curve where the glass meets the concrete mimics the curve of the giant glass structure atop the building.

The other piece is a signage display. It is two large pieces of glass supported by concrete. Large posters or ads can be placed in the display, and a series of lights run up the inside of the cement, to provide some low-level lighting to the display in the night.
