Psion Teklogix Product Redesign

Forklift operators around the world use Psion Teklogix computers for managing shipping and inventory in their warehouses. Psion approached Humber College students looking for an updated look to their line of vehicle-mounted computers.

Our return brief established that we would update the visual aesthetic of the product, while maintaining the rugged product appearance and performance that Psion is known for. We also wanted to push Psion to thinking about ways in which they can augment efficient practices for their clients. Link is a modular product family, consisting of two tablet/touchscreen computers.

The “screen” is a touchscreen computer that is mounted to the forklifts using Psion’s universal mounting brackets. The layout of the button and screens were based around usability testing wearing gloves that are mandatory for many warehouse workers.
The lower “keyboard” computer is another touchscreen that acts a keyboard for the larger screen. This keyboard computer can be detached and used separately from the main screen, in the case that workers have to leave their forklifts and dig through boxes looking for items or doing inventory.

When the two products are separated, communication between them occurs between Bluetooth and WiFi. When multiple forklifts are in use, the operators need constant communication in order to ensure both safety, and a smooth flow through the warehouse. Both computers contain hands free voice devices for communication with their teams, and for addressing large groups in case of emergency.
